Liza J. Lee - Gothic Art

Since 2007, Liza has been refining the "Ascension" series, acrylic and mixed media on canvas. These paintings represent the evolution of our collective consciousness through art and design. These are in the last finishing stages with the encaustic process, a vintage style technique first used by ancient ship builders to preserve artwork with natural beeswax. This technique mixes layers of melted wax and pigment. The finished painting is fused with heat, creating a translucent, yet lasting finish. These pieces will be available at the Main Drift 2008.

"This ethereal development is a result of my study of new gothic art for its romantic aesthetic appeal and appreciation for the sublime in nature, as well as reaction against the scientific rationalization of nature. Climate change projections indicate that average global surface temperature will likely rise a further 1.1 to 6.4°C during the twenty-first century, with an irreversible effect on on our environment."
