The Website
Artistrun.org was co-founded by Dr. Lycia Trouton, an international public artist and Liza J. Lee in 2000 as a collaborative project to join up local businesses and artists for exhibitions and cross-promotions in Vancouver. In 2002, Lycia moved to NSW, Australia on an art scholarship (to extend her art practice and art criticism) as part of a talented group of Taiwanese, Chinese and Sri Lankan artist-designer practitioners; South American cultural theory and Australian cultural history scholars. Artistrun.org has provided promotional support for emerging artists and musicians since its inception. And since 2005, it has provided space for artist-run art exhibitions such as the annual Main Drift. Artistrun.org has the marketing approach of a commercial gallery and the community focus of an artist-run gallery.
Although Lycia left Belfast and moved to Canada, the people of Northern Ireland inspired her to create the Linen Memorial, which will be exhibited in Belfast on Summer Solstice. The longest day of the year represents the ebbing relationship between the hours of night and day, which could be seen as a symbol of the pain and hope in our society. It is a day that is forward-looking and backward-looking at the same time. It is a day which represents a pause in the cycle of nature, a moment to reflect. The day's significance is related to a naturally occurring event and nature makes no distinction between races, creeds or political perspectives. Learn more about Lycia on her website.
